Cacao Beans and Other Rainforest Plants

Our rainforest unit is continuing this week with a tasty experience! We are exploring cacoa beans! To introduce this unit we read a couple great books

on how cacao beans grow and then eventually can become those delicious candy bars we eat!

Then we watched a couple video clips to actually see the process, before making our own yummy treats using real cocoa.

We made delicious no bake cookies together! Grab the recipe below to enjoy yourselves!

I just use melted semi-sweet chocolate chips instead of cocoa (about 1/2 cup). I also add about 1/2 cup of extra peanut butter and 1/2 cup LESS sugar.

After learning the ins and outs of cacao bean production, we explored the most beautiful flowers: orchids. Once we learned a little about them we used some supplies from our Experience Curriculum kit (and others we had on hand) to create our own orchid plants.

It is so fun to see how each plant turned out!
